Despite having seen him play live once, John Grant has been on the margins of my musical perception for years, only. This morning, I heard "The Cruise Room" on this month's MOJO cover CD while driving into work, and I had to cry for a few minutes about "the stupid world we share" (to quote XiuXiu).

Father John Misty is so good to listen to when I want to relax. My cat used to seem to like the music too, and we would both chill and listen to the FJM vinyls I own. This album on bandcamp was a nice FJM treat.

It’s been a long time since Midlake’s last release, but worth the wait . Folk/Psych and Altrock mix nicely with progressive elements. There is a sense of nostalgia for days gone by in much of this offering and regret for the losses and disappointments that inevitably occur in a lifetime. The production values are shimmery, like looking at reflections in gently moving water. Best listened to in it’s entirety, to let it slowly seep into your psyche.
